This is easily the best Ring doorbell encounter I’ve ever seen! 😂

How often does someone trespass property accidentally? Not very often, really- actually it sounds pretty unlikely to happen.

Still, trespassing is trespassing whatever the story behind it, and it can bear consequences for the invader.

Depending on the state, it can be punishable by a misdemeanor or be considered a felony.

“Almost without fail the distinction is based on the situation and intent of the trespasser. Along with being charged with a misdemeanor or felony, trespassing usually comes with some kind of fine and/or imprisonment.”

However, in this case legal consequences are the good scenario. The unlucky ones can even get shot if they attempt to trespass property.

While the owner’s best bet is to call the police instead of pulling the trigger against the stranger who invades their home, sometimes shooting can take place.

“In general, property owners cannot use deadly force to protect property. But property owners may be able to shoot at trespassers in self-defense if they fear great bodily harm or death.”

The guy in the video below was lucky enough to not get shot, but he didn’t get away with trespassing since the home owners called the police.

As you can see in the video, three officers arrive at Matt McAlpin’s house, ringing the bell.

McAlpin replies through the Ring Bell app, which takes the officers by surprise.

In fact, the officers were about to leave, when McAlpin talked to them through the app, making one of them come back for a quick chat.

After making sure the home owner is seeing and hearing him, he explains that the neighbors called the police on his brother-in-law and he leaves it up to him to tell the man the full story.

McAlpin then thanks the officers and waits for his brother-in-law to come over.

When the brother-in-law, Brett, comes closer, Matt asks what has happened, and Brett confesses he has just jumped the neighbors’ fence after mistaking it for McAlpin’s.

“Hey, sorry, I feel bad,” the man begins. “I jumped your neighbor’s fence thinking it was your house. […] So, he called the cops on me, understandably” he continues.

McAlpin, on the other side of the app, gasps with surprise. He can’t believe his brother-in-law made such mistake. Then he starts laughing and he wants to know which house he did it to.

At that point, he points out that Brett is a lucky guy. He could have easily been shot, while Brett still keeps saying how he owes an apology to the neighbor.

“You’re lucky you didn’t get shot,” he says, and he adds that if this had happened in his house, Brett would have certainly been shot.

Then the two men keep talking about how Brett was even considering hiding before the police arrived, but they both agree this would have been a really bad idea that would only result in putting him in a more difficult position.

The video has gone viral since it was first uploaded three years ago, and it has been upvoted 82k times. People below the video comment about how sweet Brett looks and how lucky he was.

“You two sound like the kindest people on Earth. This was refreshing to watch in 2020,” someone wrote.

We’re sure Brett will check twice before entering a property after that incident!
