Interestingly, Dominique points out that there are many lifestyle factors that can cause bags under the eyes.

The first is the use of alcohol and tobacco. Apparently, this bad habit causes the breakdown of collagen in the skin, causing a loss of elasticity under the eye area.

Another is either too much sleep or not enough sleep. Everyone knows that a lack of sleep causes dark eye circles– but did you know that too much sleep can also cause eye bags? This is because the longer you’re asleep for, the more opportunity there is for fluid to build up around the eye area, causing dark circles.

Other eye-bag triggers include allergies and sinus problems, eating salty foods, and not removing makeup before bed.

Of course, no one can fully prevent eye bags– since they’re a natural part of aging. Luckily, Dominique has some tips for seamlessly covering them up:

1. Use a serum with an anti-aging wrinkle tool

Dominique begins by smoothing some Sio Energy Serum under her eyes, before massaging it into her skin with the Sio Cryodrop. This helps to remove the fluid under the eyes.

2. Go in with a good foundation

Use your foundation as you would to set the base of your face, before using a brush to apply a small amount under the eyes. Dominique uses Nars Matte Complete Foundation and suggests applying a slightly lighter shade under your eyes to help lift any dark circles.

3. Use concealer to lift around your eye bags

Concealing your eye bags has to be one of the oldest tricks in the book– but Dominique stresses that concealing your dark circles is only going to emphasize them more. This is because most eye bags are made from pockets of fat or fluid, so will become more noticeable if highlighted.

Instead, Dominique suggests concealing around your dark circles with a lighter concealer, like Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer.

4. Set with an under-eye setting powder

Using a setting powder under your eyes not only brightens the area, but will also help to keep the makeup in place for longer. Dominique uses the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder for Under Eyes and taps a small amount onto her skin using a small under-eye brush.

These four, surprisingly simple steps will make a noticeable change to your under-eye circles, and will take you less than five minutes to complete.
