Being a partner isn’t easy – and it’s especially hard when you have to live with another human being. It’s a learning process. However, one of the best ways to keep your relationship on track is to avoid making these simple mistakes in the kitchen.

Maybe you think kitchen habits aren’t all that important, but that just means you’ve never had someone forget to screw on a lid completely or gotten hangry when you realize your partner put an empty container back in the fridge.

Here are 10 things to avoid unless you live on your own:

1. Finish what you started

Oh, yay. Just what everyone wants to see when they need a caffeine jolt – the flat remnants of the bottle.

Solution: just finish it up and alert the residents that you need more soda to avoid the let-down.

2. Clean out the cabinets

If you thought the soda was bad, check out this guy who can’t finish off a bag of chips and just keeps buying new ones.

Solution: Remember that the calories still count even if you don’t finish the bag. Finish what you started!

3. What the heck is this mess?

Everyone has their own way of loading the dishwasher. But sticking things in there without any thought makes it really hard for anyone else to use it. The person who comes next has to reorganize everything!

Solution: Stop the chaos – it’s not hard to stack things neatly!

4. This is not helping

Does your partner want a prize for putting away the clean dishes only to do this?! Ugh!

Solution: Take the extra 30 seconds to put things back where they belong!

5. Trashy

Ok, literally NO! First of all, that’s probably recycling, not trash. But how does someone think this is equivalent to putting something IN the trash?

Solution: Break down your boxes and don’t leave your mess for someone else to take care of.

6. True crime

“Rinse it out and put it in the trash? Nah, put it back in the fridge so someone else has to deal with it.” -My husband

This is the ultimate rude behavior. There’s nothing left here. It just got put back in the fridge because the person who finished it didn’t feel like rinsing it (or maybe didn’t want to be accused of eating the last of it).

Solution: Just don’t do this.

7. Counter culture

Counters are supposed to stay clean so you can make food on them. Shoes are filthy.

What kind of person comes home and puts their shoes ON the counter?

Solution: Stop being uncivilized!

8. Personal peanut butter problems

What on earth is this?! Dude, just take the protective cover all the way off. What are you thinking?

Solution: This shouldn’t even be a problem.

9. Double-pour

Ok, we kind of get it. You’re used to opening juice in a certain way. But how much effort does it take to pay attention to the packaging?

Solution: Just open things the way they’re supposed to be opened.

10. Bottles, bottles everywhere, and not a drop to drink

Ok, so technically this is the bedroom nightstand and not the kitchen, but that makes it even worse.

How hard is it to come up with a system for ditching your old plastic bottles every morning?

Solution: Clean up after yourself!

Everyone has their quirks when it comes to kitchen manners, but some behavior is just too much. Of course, you can do what you want, but don’t be surprised when your partner gives you the stink-eye!
