The purpose of fashion has evolved over time from function to boosting one’s confidence and appearance.

Once upon a time, we used clothing as a protection against the planet’s harshest elements, be it the varying weather conditions or the environment they live in.

Over the centuries, it has been transformed as a means for affluent people to showcase their ranks and fortune.

Ultimately, fashion is a form of aesthetic expression.

Whether it is to make a statement or try out a different role in society, it all boils down to expressing yourself.

Generally speaking, it seems that women are more invested than men when it comes to fashion and clothes.

Women know and understand the importance of fashion in our society, but men sometimes lag behind in that area—even though investing a little more time would help them in the long run.

That is why GQ Magazine created Project Upgrade, featuring the world’s best-dressed man.

GQ, formerly known as Gentlemen’s Quarterly, is an American international monthly men’s magazine based in New York City.

Initially launched in 1931 as Apparel Arts, it was a men’s fashion magazine for the clothing trade aimed primarily at wholesale buyers and retail sellers. As they changed their brand name, they also expanded their content, not only focusing on fashion, style, and culture for men, articles on food, movies, fitness, sex, to name a few, were also featured.

And Project Upgrade is GQ’s style intervention, whose main objective is to transform your average Joes into mini-fashion icons.

With the help of Tom Ford, an American fashion designer, filmmaker and owner of his eponymous luxury brand, they make their goals come true!

In one of GQ’s episodes on YouTube, they gave a random construction worker a drastic makeover.

Today’s lucky guy is Konrad Rusiecki, a 30-year-old builder.

While Tom is having a little chit-chat with Konrad, inspecting him closely from different angles, he is already brainstorming ideas for Konrad’s new look and what style will suit him best.

Tom is also joined by Jim Moore, a creative director who spent 40 years of his career with GQ.

With his sharp eye, solid reputation, and creative influence, he suggested shaving Konrad’s beard and to shorten his hair for that clean look. However, Tom opted to maintain the man’s rugged features which speak volumes of his appeal.

Konrad was wearing an oversized shirt and baggy pants, matched with sneakers when he arrived in the studio.

Konrad told GQ that his style is heavily influenced by hip-hop, but overall it is chaos.

And so to keep his personality, Tom and Jim made him wear an ensemble that is casual but helps bring out the best version of himself.

Even though no aspect of Konrad’s current life requires a tailored suit, slacks, and leathered shoes, wearing a slim sweater combo and a statement-piece topcoat every once in a while won’t hurt. And the results are amazing!

Konrad went from construction worker to construction company owner… and part-time model real quick!

Konrad is already photogenic, but his new getup really accentuated his good looks.

It brought out his stylish side! Before the makeover, he was timid, but by the end, he seemed much more confident with himself.

He could qualify as a model for some high-end fashion brands—he looks that good!
