A lot of women over 40 have embraced their age and they know they’re no longer young.

But there’s no rule that says you can’t look younger.

And you can do that easily with a different hairstyle, haircut, or clothes. You don’t need to go overboard and get plastic surgery or get fillers or Botox. Just a few changes to your look are all you need to achieve that youthful vibe.

How can you style your hair to look younger?

Before Erin Busbee shares how she styles her hair to look younger, there are a few things to consider, especially with hair.

Cut your hair.

Super long hair, hair that goes past the ribs will make you look older. Cut that hair. No need to go for a pixie cut. You can keep your hair length up to just below the shoulders. This is very important, especially if you have thin hair.

Keep it parted to the side.

Avoid parting your head in the middle or extremely to the side. It’ll make you look older. Keep it parted to one side and change it up every now and then. Having bangs will also keep your look youthful.

Use the right shampoo for your hair and scalp.

Always use the right shampoo so that your hair is soft and full. Using the wrong shampoo can make your hair look lifeless, dull, and can damage your hair.

Now that that’s settled, let’s move on to hairstyles.

Erin suggested five ways to style your medium to long hair easily for any occasion and when you don’t have a lot of time.

The first style is teased hair.

Instead of just having stick-straight hair, add more volume. All you need for this one is a wide brush. Grab bundles of your hair and stick it straight up. Place your brush at the back of the bundle and run it back and forth gently to add volume. That’s called teasing your hair. Do it gently or else you will damage your hair.

Finish it off with setting spray so it’ll last longer.

The next style is half up.

Grab a bundle of your hair on top, tease it a little bit then secure it with a hair tie. Make sure to keep the teased pouf by not tying your hair too tight. When it’s tied and you want more volume, just pull your hair gently towards the face to keep the hair up.

The third style is the classic ponytail.

You can place the ponytail in the middle or high up, depending on your preference. To give it body, grab the ponytail with one hand and grab the top of your hair with your fingers. Pull back your hair in opposite directions slowly and gently to create more volume.

You can also style your hair with loose waves.

This style will add drama to your hair so it’s not just stick-straight. For this style, you will need a curling iron. Depending on how big you want the curls, you can heat your hair with the iron for around 10 to 30 seconds.

The last one is the updo.

This one is tricky because if you keep the bun too low, you’ll look older. Or if it’s too messy, it’ll look unnatural. So you have to keep the bun high with just a little bit of mess. And it’s best to have some loose hair on the sides of your face to frame it.
