Both lovers have Down’s syndrome, and their beautiful wedding day is changing attitudes towards love and marriage with Down’s.

The groom’s mom, Tessa Branch, has always said that she was afraid and worried about the life that her son would lead as an adult. While living on their own is most certainly doable with some help, mom was more afraid of the misconceptions that society would have over her son’s condition.

However, mom can rest on her both ears now that she knows that another very special woman has entered Kieran’s life.

Kieran and Emmie – now 21 years old – first laid eyes on each other six years earlier at a camp for people with special needs. Kieran got on his knees in 2016, proposing to her by singing “I’m Your Man” by Wham!, a classic. Before the wedding, they lived together for a couple of months to see if living together would work out for them.

“They didn’t end up killing each other and so the wedding plans were put firmly on track,” Kieran’s mom Tessa said about the planning.

The two lovebirds married a couple of years later in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by their friends and family.

Everyone believes that the two are a match made in heaven, and you can just see that love is in the air.

“[They] are no different to any other young couple,” Tessa said to The Daily Mail.

“They really complement each other well,” she added. “Say if they go out to a restaurant they’ve not been to before, Kieran might struggle to read the menu, whereas Emmie would be able to do so fluently.

“But if they needed to ask for help, for example, Kieran has more confidence, so he wouldn’t be afraid to do that.”

Mom also says that they have a very ‘real’ relationship, and the wedding planning was a blast as both of them picked out every single detail together. For example, all of the songs played at the wedding, such as Make You Feel My Love (Adele) and The Wonder Of You (Elvis Presley), hold sentimental meaning to them. However, it was the Grease classic ‘You’re The One That I Want’ that really managed to captivate the attendees with some serious moves by the newlyweds.

The exchange of the vows was followed by a beautiful message.

The newlyweds encouraged and even made everyone promise to “meet, speak to and laugh with strangers.”

With this wedding, the two are making national headlines and photos of the adorable couple are going viral. Throughout their entire lives, people have told them everything they couldn’t do – finding true love was one of those things. However, Emmie and Kieran proved them wrong, and this ceremony full of huge smiles just says it all.

And according to Tessa, the couple behaves just like any other couple, with its ups and downs.

“He [Kieran] adores Emmie but likes his own space at the same time, whereas she likes to be with him all the time. Sometimes he’ll ring me up and say ‘how do I get her to just go up to bed?’ or ‘how can I just get five minutes on my own?”, she said with a laugh.

The groom’s mom even says that this beautiful day and ceremony are changing attitudes towards people with Down’s syndrome.

“It’s fantastic because I think it really changes people’s attitude towards them.”

“We’re all so proud and so happy,” she concluded.
